Macon Vegans Monthly Meetup | March 2019

Macon Vegans is going to begin documenting our Meetups with a blog post the week of the Meetup.

This month, we were fortunate enough to collaborate with Meat Free Mikee (The man with the mustache and "MEAT-FREE" on his cap)!! He spoke with all of us a little bit about his vegan activism. He's the organizer of the Atlanta Climate SAVE Movement, the local Macon chapter of Anonymous for the Voiceless and just recently, the Macon chapter of the Animal SAVE Movement. We met at Mia's Health Food Store and were fortunate enough to have Dr. Holness speak a little bit about whole health and plant-based eating. It was brief, but informative. He spoke about using food as medicine and how everything in our lives is connected and encompasses our health. We learned about a few foods that help with vegan nutrition, like eating leafy green veggies or drinking a certain herbal tea for calcium. We started off with some social time, and we all had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Holness one on one before he spoke to us as a group.

All of our events are kid friendly. As you see, we had a kids table for the children and plenty of fresh fruits and veggies to please everyone! All purchased in a "smart shopping" spree that morning using the Macon Vegans Grocery Store Produce Sale blog post as a guide to savings!

Kara Holness, PhD, owner of Mia's Health Food Store along with Dr. Holness, is an incredible wealth of knowledge and helped our group members with any questions they had on purchases they made during the meetup.
