Weekly Produce Sales | Weekly Grocery Store Ads | Through 07/04

This really is one of my favorite to grocery shop!! Aldi comes through again this week with great sales on fruits. Have you tried making a cantaloupe freeze? Just cut up some cantaloupe and freeze it with some grapes. Once frozen, put them in your food processor, 3:1 cantaloupe:grapes. That's it!! Top it off with some blueberries and sliced bananas. Sometimes the simplest things are the most delicious!

Great sale on stone fruit this week at Dollar General. You can't go wrong with the corn either. Do you like homemade creamed corn? It is the easiest, at the same time most tedious dish! But totally worth the efforts!! Just grate the fresh corn and then bring it all to a simmer in a pan where you've sautéed some onions and garlic. That's it. Then you can make some of Macon Vegans Cornbread with your leftovers! (If you have any...lol)

Great price on eggplant this week at Food Depot. I love using it to make vegan lasagna!! Check out out blog next week because we'll be posting a great recipe for vegan, wheat-free, soy-free lasagna!! And the sale on Calabaza this week has made me so very happy!!

Some of you may be asking yourselves, "What is Calabaza?" It's the Spanish word for pumpkin. This pumpkin is NOT for pumpkin pie, though! My favorite way to prepare and eat it is SUPER simple!! Just slice the calabaza as thinly as you can. On a parchment paper lined shallow baking pan, pour some of your favorite oil, I like extra virgin olive oil for the flavor, crushed or grated garlic, thinly sliced onion of your choice, I like sweet vidalia onions which also happen to be on sale here this week, and salt and pepper to taste. Put in a pre-heated 400ºF oven. That's it. It should not take more than 30 minutes, depending on the thickness of the slices. Just keep an eye it. Flip them over halfway through. Sprinkle some fresh cilantro on top with a squeeze of lime and you're ready to eat some very delicious pumpkin!

Almost every week I'm so happy to see that Fresh Market comes through with their bulk sales! I will definitely be loading up on raw cashews to make some cashew cheese!! That recipe will also be coming soon! I also want to point out that they have a great sale on organic broccoli this week.

Another good sale on Georgia Grown Vidalia Onions! What I do when I find good sales on things like onions and peppers is buy large quantities, then I prep them (slice, chop, mince, etc.) and freeze to make my life a little easier in the future!

Not the best sales on corn and cantaloupe this week, but still reasonable. But the sales on grapes and cherries are definitely some of the best in Macon this week.

Great sale on peaches and potatoes this week at Piggly Wiggly. Have you tried our recipe for Irish Style Baked Potatoes? They're delicious and easy to make!

If you've been following Macon Vegans since we launched in January of this year, than you know how much of a fan I am of their BOGO deals. You just can't go wrong!

Best sale on potatoes this week and a great sale on stone fruits!!

Best sale on Vidalia onions at Shopper's Value Foods this week! Potatoes too!
