Macon Vegans launched in the beginning of this year, January 2019, with the goal of supporting plant based vegans and those who are interested in trying it out or just want to learn a little bit about it. Last month, we collaborated with Meat Free Mikee, and now have even more opportunities to engage in vegan outreach!

The first opportunity we took to participate was during an Anonymous for the Voiceless: Cube of Truth that our collaborator and local chapter organizer Mikee Yago, aka Meat Free Mikee, scheduled the day of the Cherry Blossom Parade. It was a great experience! It is a non-aggressive way to advocate for the voiceless. Participants of the Cube all wear the same mask with black shirts, and hold signs or laptops/tablets with behind the scenes footage of the meat industry. The public are free to stop, watch the videos and ask questions, or walk on past. The choice is theirs.

Fortunately, Macon Vegans were able to participate in another Cube of Truth on the First Friday of April. Another great experience! We had the opportunity to reach out to people who approached us and answer any of the questions they had about the videos and veganism.
The meaningful conversations were exactly that. Almost every person who stopped to speak was exposed to something new that made them rethink their choices. There was even one couple who came to ask questions on First Friday that had seen the Cube at the Cherry Blossom Festival, but didn't approach until First Friday. I can't say if the impact was enough to influence any of the visitors and inquirers into veganism, but they were definitely made aware of the consequences of many of their choices.

Macon Vegans also did a little flyering at the Cherry Blossom Festival after the Cube of Truth. We handed out somewhere around 750 flyers promoting Macon Vegans monthly meet ups with Meat Free Mikee.

We also handed out some flyers at our booth at this year's ArtHealthy Festival in Millegdeville, Georgia. We were fortunate enough to have been able to collaborate with a number of local organizations. We partnered with Nuestra Voz Middle Georgia, Georgia Wellness and Fitness Festival and Tony Guy, Family Advancement Ministries, Ana Hernandez, De Mujer a Mujer, Medientorno, Notivisión, and J Britt Thames, Attorney at Law.

We were able to participate in some great vegan outreach. One of Macon Vegans' newest members, Alli Balducci, volunteered a few hours of her time to be out there with us that day!

Macon Vegans has a couple more events coming up this month.
We will be collaborating with Meat Free Mikee, "Soul"utions Community Gardeners, Soulful Love Living, Charlotte Rosalie Dungan, and Janie Hokanson for the Earth Day Festival at Tattnall Square Park on Wednesday, April 24. We will also be having our monthly meetup as usual.
This month our meetup is a POTLUCK!! We are so excited about it! You can share your favorite recipes with your new vegan friends and they can share theirs with you! It will take place at the Society Garden on Sunday, April 28, from 4pm - 7pm. Bring a list of ingredients with your dish, for those who have food allergies, and make sure you bring enough to share! (12 servings should be good). Please bring the recipe as well so your friends can make it themselves later.
